INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set One (25-23)
Jamestown started off on the right foot against the undefeated Wildcats, using an 8-3 run to open a 19-14 lead. IWU would get as close as 20-19, but a kill by Olson and an attack error by the Wildcats extended UJ's lead to 22-19. A kill by Krieg made it 24-21, and after IWU took the next two points, Zieske finished off the set with her fourth kill and the Jimmies had a 1-0 match lead.
  • Set Two (21-25)
UJ took the momentum of a first-set win into set two, racing out to a 5-1 lead. The Wildcats won the next four points to tie the score, but Jamestown regained a 7-5 lead. That would be the final advantage for the Jimmies in the set, as IWU went on a 5-0 run and never looked back. Late in the set, Jamestown trimmed an eight-point deficit to just three, but the Wildcats tied the match one play later.

  • Set Three (18-25)
A kill by Krieg put UJ ahead 14-8 midway through the third, but a 9-0 run by the Wildcats was the key in a pivotal third set. Back-to-back points by the Jimmies cut the lead to one, but IWU took four in a row and eight of the final ten to close out the set. UJ was outhit .196 to .100 in the third, the lowest percentage for either team in the match.

  • Set Four (21-25)
The Wildcats started strong, building an 8-3 lead early. However, the Jimmies showed their resolve, getting as close as 14-13 after a kill by Logan Sherman. IWU responded with the next three points, and UJ played from behind the rest of the way. The Wildcats finished with five of the last eight points and moved on to Monday's semifinals.
