The University of Jamestown women's volleyball team capped off a successful home opening weekend with a sweep of Briar Cliff (Iowa) University Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena. Set scores were 25-22, 25-14, and 25-20.

Logan Sherman hit .500 with 12 kills and Aleah Zieske added 11 kills and eight digs as the Jimmies moved to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in the GPAC.

It was the sixth straight win for UJ, who also got eight kills from Lexi Olson.

UJ led 16-9 in the first set when the Chargers began to get back in the game. A 3-0 run got BCU within 18-16, and after falling behind 22-19 after a kill by Olson, another 3-0 run made it 22-all. Zieske put down her third kill of the set on the next play, and back-to-back attack errors by BCU gave Jamestown the win.

Set two saw the Jimmies score 18 of their 25 points on kills while outhitting BCU .368 to .034. UJ scored the first four points on the way to an 8-2 lead after Grace Hegerle's kill. Zieske made it a double-digit advantage (20-10) and Ava Mueller followed with a kill of her own for good measure.

In the third set, Jamestown led by just one (19-18) but took advantage of back-to-back errors by BCU to make it 21-18. Two more Charger attack miscues put the Jimmies at match point, and one point later Sherman put the ball to the floor to finsh off the match.

Lily Bertsch passed out a match-high 20 assists and finished with a double-double of 11 digs. Paige Oswald added 14 assists and Tenley Buddenhagen eight.

Ellie Holen led all players with 17 digs and had three assists.

Next up for the Jimmies is a road trip to South Dakota, with a match Friday at Dakota Wesleyan University and a Saturday match at Mount Marty University.
