No. 2 Jimmies sweep #22 Dordt for 26th win

The second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team posted its seventh straight win Wednesday evening with a sweep of No. 22 Dordt (Iowa) University at Harold Newman Arena.

UJ led 10-5 in the first set, but the Defenders closed the gap to 15-14. A kill by Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) started a string of five straight points for the Jimmies. Dordt scored to stop the streak, but Jamestown reeled off the final five to win 25-15.

The Defenders went up 14-13 midway through the second set, and once again a Holen kill began a 3-0 run for UJ to retake the lead. Dordt would tie the set at 16-16, then kills by Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.), Aleah Zieske (SO/Spicer, Minn.), and a combo block from Hegerle and Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) swung the momentum back to the Jimmies. Jamestown finished the set with six of the final eight points to take a 2-0 match lead.

Dordt led 7-2 in set three before UJ began to chip away. The Jimmies would take a 14-11 lead, only to have the Defenders come back to tie the set at 14-14. A 6-1 Jamestown run capped off by a Dordt setting error made it 20-15, and UJ went on for a 25-21 match-sealing win.

Hegerle had 12 kills and 14 assists, and Holen finished with 11 kills and 12 digs. Zieske added eight kills and Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) passed out 13 assists. Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) recorded 13 digs and Johnson four total blocks, both team-highs.
