Second-ranked Jimmies begin road swing with win at No. 19 Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa-- It took a little over a month, but the second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team defeated No. 19 Dordt University and remain in first place atop the GPAC standings.

Thursday evening's match began on September 17, but was suspended with the score tied at one set each after a medical emergency involving a UJ parent. Things picked up were they were left off, and Jamestown came away with a 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-12 victory.

Tied at 11-11 in set three, the Jimmies took three straight points and four of the next five to open up a three-point lead. Jamestown gradually opened up a 21-14 advantage after back-to-back kills by Lexi Olson (SO/Langdon, N.D.). Dordt rallied by winning the next six points to tie the set at 21-21. Three straight kills by UJ closed out the set and gave the visitors a 2-1 match lead.

Set four was all Jamestown, racing out to a 10-2 lead and forcing a Defender timeout. Out of the break, UJ won back-to-back points and opened up its largest lead up to that point. Dordt would get no closer than six points the rest of the way, and with the score 22-12, a Defender service error and two straight attack errors provided the Jimmies with the winning points.

Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) had a team-high 19 kills and added 13 digs, while Logan Sherman (JR/Marshall, Minn.) added 11 kills. Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) passed out 27 assists and Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) 18 as Jamestown hit .228 for the match.

Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) recorded 26 digs and Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) had three blocks for UJ, now 24-2 overall and 10-1 in the GPAC.

Jamestown's road trip continues with a match at Morningside (Iowa) on Friday, followed by a Saturday match at No. 7 Northwestern (Iowa).
