#2 Jimmies post sweep of Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- The second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team swept Briar Cliff University Friday evening, improving to 21-2 overall and 8-1 in the GPAC. Set scores were 25-20, 25-16, 25-15.

Jamestown takes a half-game lead over No. 5 Midland (Neb.) and a full-game lead over No. 7 Northwestern (Iowa) for first place in the conference.

The Jimmies posted their second-highest match hitting percentage of the season (.378), with just nine errors on 111 attempts. UJ hit .469 and .400 in the final two sets, combining for 35 of its 51 kills on the night.

Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) had 13 kills and 16 assists, while Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) added 10 kills and 24 digs as Jamestown had seven players record at least five kills in the match. Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) led UJ hitters with a .545 attack percentage.

Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) passed out 20 assists and Johnson, Logan Sherman (JR/Marshall, Minn.), and Aleah Zieske (SO/Spicer, Minn.) all had two total blocks.

UJ won for the 14th straight time against Briar Cliff dating back to 2009. The two teams will meet again on October 29 in Jamestown.

Next up for the Jimmies is a Saturday match at No. 13 College of Saint Mary (Neb.) starting at 3 p.m.
