Second-ranked Jimmies sweep Saturday matches

HASTINGS, Neb.-- The second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team swept two matches Saturday afternoon, defeating Hastings College 25-17, 25-15, 25-23; and Ottawa (Kan.) 25-15, 28-26, 25-17.

The Jimmies won their 18th straight match and are 18-1 overall and 6-0 in the GPAC.

Six players had four kills or more in the win over Hastings. Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) led the way with nine while Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) and Aleah Zieske (SO/Spicer, Minn.) finished with eight each. Hegerle (18 assists) and Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) (10) helped UJ hitters to a .359 hitting percentage in the match.

Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) posted 20 digs and Anna Holen had 10. Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) recorded four total blocks and Zieske had two solo blocks.

Jamestown also had nine service aces as well as a 47-39 edge in digs.

Hegerle and Anna Holen combined for 24 of the Jimmies' 41 kills against Ottawa. Holen had 13 kills and 13 digs while Hegerle added 11 kills and 14 assists.

UJ hit .218 as a team but ten total blocks played a part in the Braves' 19 attack errors and .124 hitting percentage.

Ellie Holen again led the defense with 21 digs and Anna Holen had five total blocks. Lexi Olson (SO/Langdon, N.D.) added three block assists.

Jamestown begins a three-match homestand Friday when they host No. 6 Concordia (Neb.) at 7:30 p.m.
