No. 2 Jimmies sweep The Master's for seventh straight win

GREAT FALLS, Mont.-- The second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team finished off a perfect weekend at the Electric City Invite with a sweep of The Master's (Calif.) Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-17, 30-28, 25-23.

After losing their opening match in the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge, the Jimmies have reeled off eight straight wins and will look to continue their winning streak into the Sioux City tournament next Friday and Saturday.

Jamestown begain Saturday's match with an 8-5 lead against the Mustangs, gradually taking an eight-point advantage. Aleah Zieske (SO/Spicer, Minn.) racked up a pair of kills, Logan Sherman (JR/Marshall, Minn.) added another, and UJ forced three attack errors during the run. The Jimmie lead did not fall under five points, and UJ finished the set with six of the last nine points.

The Master's held leads of 9-4 and 16-10 in the second set, but the Jimmies stormed back with an 8-4 run, forcing a Mustang timeout. Out of the timeout, UJ scored the next two to tie the match at 20-20. After The Master's went up 27-26, Jamestown got a pair of kills by Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.), a service ace from Lily Bertsch (FR/Eagan, Minn.), then took the winning point on a Mustang attack error.

Jamestown trailed for much of the third set, with their largest deficit coming at four points. Down 21-17, the Jimmies won three straight points and the Mustangs called time out. UJ took four of the final six points, with the go-ahead point coming on a bad set and the match winner on an attack error.

Anna Holen had 11 kills and hit .281 for the match. Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) had eight kills, 12 assists, and finished with a .250 hitting percentage.

Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) passed out 16 assists and Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) recorded 17 digs. Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) had four total blocks, including three block assists.

With a win against Tennessee Southern on Friday, Jamestown will have won at least eight of their first nine matches every season since 2018.
