No. 2 Jimmies add two more wins Friday at Electric City Invite

GREAT FALLS, Mont.-- The second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team added two more wins to its season total Friday, defeating Arizona Christian and No. 10 University of Providence at the Electric City Invite.

The Jimmies won in straight sets (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) over Arizona Christian in Friday's first match.

A 5-1 run in the first pushed Jamestown's lead to six points, and the Firestorm got no closer than five the rest of the way.

ACU turned a 4-3 deficit into a 16-10 advantage in set two, but the Jimmies maintained their composure while gradually getting back in the match. Aleah Zieske (SO/Spicer, Minn.)'s kill and Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.)'s service ace helped tie the match at 22-22. The set ended on a kill by Logan Sherman (JR/Marshall, Minn.) and UJ had the Firestorm on the ropes.

Trailing 12-8 in the third, Jamestown went on a 13-2 run highlighted by four Zieske kills and forced an ACU timeout. The teams traded points until Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.)'s block ended the match.

Zieske finished with 12 kills and hit .333 for the match. Holen and Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) had nine kills each.

UJ hit .240 as a team with Hegerle (19) and Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) (17) combining for 36 of the Jimmies' 44 assists.

Ellie Holen had 23 digs and Lexi Olson (SO/Langdon, N.D.) led the net defense with five total blocks, including three block assists.

(2) Jamestown 3, (10) Providence 1
A third-set loss was the only speed bump UJ faced Saturday evening in taking care of the host Argos.

UJ made 12 errors and was outhit .044 to .002 as Providence staved off defeat for at least one more set. Fortunately Jamestown responded with its best set of the match, using a 14-3 run to get the win after being tied at 11-11. The Jimmies outhit Providence .417 to -.091 and made seven fewer errors (10-3).

Zieske again led the team in kills, this time with 12, while Hegerle and Logan Sherman both had 10. Zieske hit a team-best .381 while Sherman was right behind at .350.

Hegerle finished with 22 assists and Paige Oswald added 18.

Ellie Holen had 30 digs while Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) posted three total blocks.

Jamestown improves to 6-1 on the season and will finish the Electric City Invite Saturday with a 12 p.m. match against The Master's (Calif.)
