The University of Jamestown women's soccer team earned their first win of the season Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Doane (Neb.) University at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies had the offensive pressure early on, getting off three shots in the first ten minutes.
  • In the 25th minute, Ryley Bedard's free kick from about 20 yards out on the far sideline found enough space for Miarosa Gyllenswan to get a right-footed touch to put the ball in the net for a 1-0 Jimmie lead.
  • Jamestown ended the half with eight total shots, five on target, while holding the Tigers to two.
  • The second half saw UJ outshoot Doane 7-0 overall but the Jimmies had only two shots on goal.
  • Clara Pelegrina narrowly missed an opportunity for an insurance goal in the 87th minute as her shot hit the crossbar, then Gyllenswan was denied by Doane goalkeeper Grayce Southern  less than a minute later.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Tea Pence had two saves while earning her first clean sheet of the season.
  • Jamestown ended with a 15-2 advantage in shots and won six corner kicks to Doane's one.
  • Breanna Oettle joined Bedard and Gyllenswan with two shots on goal.

FOR THE TIGERS

  • Southern had six saves in the loss.
  • McKenna Rathbun had both of Doane's shots.
