Road win over Morningside gives Jimmies three-game win streak

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kate Busek opened up the game with a three in the Jimmies first possession, Kate Cordes followed with a layup to make it a 5-0 run. 
  • The Mustangs responded with 11 points while only allowing the Jimmies six, tying the game 11-11.  
  • Jimmies took a timeout, but the Mustangs were hot and went on an 8-0 run to lead 19-11 with three minutes to play in the first quarter. 
  • Megan Oswald and Samantha Paulsen had layups in the remaining minutes and the Mustangs added four points as well to end the quarter up 23-15. 
  • The Jimmies got within two points to start the second quarter with points from Tower, Audrey Rodakowski, and Cordes, but the Mustangs went on a 10-0 run to lead 36-24. At the end of the quarter, they still led 43-30. 
  • The Jimmies chipped away and outscored the Mustangs 29-20 in the third. Samantha Paulsen had the hot hand with three buckets from outside the arc and a layup for 11 points. 
  • Tower got a layup in the last 13 second to have the Jimmies trailing only four points to end the third quarter (59-63). 
  • Paulsen scored another three to start Jimmie points in the final quarter. Hannah Hagel followed with a layup and Paulsen laid one in as well, forcing a Mustang timeout as the Jimmies led 66-65. 
  • Points went back and forth for a while. The Jimmies scored five unanswered points, including a layup from Tower and two threes from Cordes, to put them ahead 80-71 with three minutes left. 
  • The Jimmies had no more points but only allowed the Mustangs three more, securing themselves the road win (80-74). 

FOR THE JIMMIES 

  • Kia Tower had a double double with 19 points and 10 assists. She went 7-7 on free throws. 
  • Samantha Paulsen followed with 18 points. Audrey Rodakowski and Kate Cordes each had 16 points. 
  • Rodakowski, Tower, and Cordes each grabbed six rebounds. 
  • The Jimmies shot 100% on free throws, making 11-11. 

FOR THE MUSTANGS

  • Lily Vollertsen led with 20 points.
  • Olivia Larsen had 7 rebounds.
