Fourth quarter gets away from the Jimmies in loss to Dordt

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first quarter, the Defenders and the Jimmies played a close game, neither team getting ahead more than three points. 
  • However, the first quarter went to the Defenders as they outscored the Jimmies 18-15. 
  • Around three minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Defenders started to pull away bringing their lead to 31-22. 
  • The Jimmies stuck around, not letting themselves get down by double digits. Audrey Rodakowski scored a last second jumper to end the half down 26-34. 
  • Kate Cordes had the hot hand to start the half, scoring eight points in the first two minutes to help the Jimmie's trail only two (36-38). 
  • The Defenders got up seven after that, but the Jimmies came out of a timeout with threes by Sarah Lenz and Cordes to put them right back in the game. 
  • Cordes hit another jumper outside the arc with 43 second to go to bring the Jimmies ahead 51-49. A Defender two-pointer ended the third quarter in a tie. 
  • The fourth quarter got away from the Jimmies as the Defenders found a double digit lead six minutes in. However, the Jimmie battled to get within five points, forcing a Defender timeout. 
  • The Jimmies were unable to catch up as the Defenders took back their lead out of the timeout. The game went to the Defenders, 74-63. 

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Cordes led with 17 points. Kia Tower followed with 14. Rodakowski scored 11. 
  • Rodakowski and Megan Oswald grabbed six rebounds. 

FOR THE DEFENDERS 

  • Bailey Beckman led with 16 points. 
  • Janie Schoonhoven had nine rebounds.
