Jimmie women defeat No. 16 Providence in Hawaii Holiday Classic

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Providence took an 18-14 lead after the first quarter with their biggest lead coming at 15-10.
  • The Jimmies went down by as many as eight in the second quarter, but a three-pointer by Kate Cordes and a basket from Kia Tower helped cut the lead to just five at the break.
  • Tower and Kate Busek each scored four points in the third quarter, and a three-pointer from Sarah Lenz helped Jamestown outscore the Argos 17-15 in the third, and UJ trailed by just three going into the final ten minutes.
  • Audrey Rodakowski put the Jimmies in front with a jumper with 6:49 to play, and after the Argos came back to tie, made a pair of free throws at the 5:10 mark as Jamestown would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game.
  • Cordes went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, leading the way with 10 points. Rodakowski added eight as Jamestown finished with a 27-16 scoring edge in the final quarter.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Four players hit for double figures, led by Cordes with 18. Rodakowski was next with 14, followed by Tower with 12, and Busek with 10.
  • Rodakowski grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while Tower and Busek each had three assists. 

FOR THE ARGOS

  • Ashlee Maldonado had 18 points and six rebounds and was joined in double digits by Maddy Dixon with 14 and Keanna Salave'a with 12.
