Jimmies have impressive last minute but end trailing Morningside

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Points between the Jimmies and Mustangs were close in the beginning of the first quarter. At 2:56 remaining, the Mustangs made a three to pull a lead of nine points (28-19). 
  • Kate Cordes responded with a three and two-point jumper to get the Jimmies within four. The mustangs scored once more, and the quarter ended with the Jimmies down 24-30.
  • The second quarter started with a Cordes three and Audrey Rodakowski layup, helping the Jimmies trail by one. The Jimmies stayed close, but the Mustangs eventually gained a lead of 37-31 with 5:56 remaining. 
  • In the remaining minutes, the Mustangs outscored the Jimmies ten to four. The quarter ended 47-35. 
  • The Mustangs extended their lead to 14 points in the beginning of the third (53-39). After that, the Jimmie defense kept the Mustangs from scoring for four minutes and got within seven points (46-53). 
  • Both teams hit a scoring drought at 4:33 remaining and neither scored until the Mustangs made two free throws with 48 seconds on the clock. The third ended 57-46.
  • The Mustangs lead extended in the fourth. With 1:47 left to play, the Jimmies were down 16 points (56-72). 
  • Starting at 1:10 left to play, the Jimmies scored an impressive 14 points and the Mustangs made five free throws. The game went to the Mustangs 77-70.
