Jimmies dominate fourth quarter in win at VCSU

VALLEY CITY, N.D.-- Leading by just one point late in the third quarter, the Jimmie women's basketball team outscored Valley City State 34-14 over the final 12:45 on the way to a 75-54 non-conference win Friday evening.

Jamestown (11-2) returns to conference action Monday when they host Morningside (Iowa) University at 6 p.m.

Kia Tower (SR/Bigfork, MN) had 24 points and made four three-pointers while Hannah DeMars (SR/Grand Rapids, MN) had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Jimmies won for the fifth straight game.

UJ led by 10 as Tower scored to open the third quarter, but the Jimmies would make just two of 12 shots the rest of the period. The Vikings got within 41-40 after Adriana Torres capped off a 15-6 run. Jamestown finished with five of the final six points to take a 46-41 lead going into the the fourth.

Torres brought the Vikings within 49-43 at the 9:18 mark, then Tower drained back-to-back threes to double the Jimmie lead. VCSU went scoreless for a five-minute strech that saw Jamestown go up by 22 following a Megan Oswald (SO/Brownsdale, MN) bucket with 2:42 left.

UJ shot 50 percent and held VCSU to 25 percent while outrebounding the Vikings 18-6 in the fourth.

Kate Cordes (FR/Shakopee, MN) had eight points off the bench while Oswald finished with a season-high seven.

JayCee Richter led the Vikings with 10 points while Torres added nine points and nine rebounds.
