Josephson reaches 1000-point mark but Jimmies fall at No. 21 Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa-- The 2021-22 season came to a close for the University of Jamestown women's basketball team Wednesday night as the Jimmies lost 71-60 to No. 21 Dordt University in the quarterfinals of the GPAC postseason tournament.

The Jimmies end with a record of 18-13, while the Defenders move on to the semifinals with a record of 24-7.

Despite allowing Dordt to shoot 62 percent in the first quarter, UJ found themselves down by just two heading into the second. Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN) had eight points for the Jimmies in the opening ten minutes.

Josephson scored the first points for Jamestown in the second quarter, giving her 10 for the game and 1,001 for her career, and is the 23rd Jimmie to reach 1000 career points.

The Defenders took their biggest lead of the quarter on a Karly Gustafson jumper that made it 30-25. Jamestown got within two after a Macy Savela (JR/Mountain Iron, MN) three-pointer, then Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) tied the game with a layup on the next possession. The teams traded baskets over the final four-and-a-half minutes with Dordt taking a 36-34 lead at the break.

Gustafson and Bailey Beckman shot 7-for-7 combined in the third quarter, scoring 17 of the Defenders' 21 points. An 8-0 run put Dordt ahead 48-37, and the lead would get as large at 14 following a Beckman three.

UJ's shooting struggles continued into the fourth quarter, as the team shot just 3-of-15 overall and 2-of-10 from three-point range. The Jimmies got as close as seven inside of the final minute, but the Defenders were able to close out the game at the free throw line.

DeMars finished with 19 points to lead Jamestown while Josephson posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) added seven points and four steals.
