Cold shooting hurts Jimmies in loss to Dakota Wesleyan

MITCHELL, S.D.-- The University of Jamestown women's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night, losing 64-49 to Dakota Wesleyan University.

Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) accounted for all of the Jimmies' offense in the first quarter, making all three of her shots and both free throws as DWU led 13-9 after one.

The Tigers would lead by as many as 13 in the second quarter, shooting 8-of-13 overall while holding UJ to 4-of-15 shooting. Jamestown was able to get within eight points after Sarah Lenz (FR/Belle Plaine, MN) made a three-pointer with 1:06 before the half, but DWU would get the final basket of the quarter to take a double-digit lead into the break.

Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN) opened the scoring in the second half for UJ, and the Jimmies used a 9-0 run to make it a one-point game 2:30 into the quarter. DeMars would score to tie the game at 39-39, then Lexiss Trygg (FR/Virginia, MN) gave Jamestown a 40-39 lead at the 3:27 mark. The lead was short-lived as Matti Reiner scored for DWU on the next trip down the court, and the home team led by a pair going into the fourth.

Jamestown went cold from the field in the final ten minutes, making just one of 17 field goal attempts and missing all seven three-pointers. The Tigers opened on a 7-0 run to push the lead to nine, and after not allowing the Jimmies to get within seven, finished the game with the final eight points to decide the outcome.

DeMars had 15 points and 12 rebounds for UJ, who also got nine points each from Lenz and Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN). The Jimmies, now 16-9 overall and 9-8 in the GPAC, host Midland (Neb.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
