Jimmies lead wire-to-wire in win at Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb.-- The University of Jamestown women's basketball team led from start to finish Saturday afternoon, defeating Hastings College 68-59 in GPAC action.

Jamestown, now 14-8 overall and 7-7 in the conference, returns home to host Mount Marty (S.D.) University Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Jimmies opened the game scoring 10 of the first 12 points and eventually built a 16-6 lead. Five of UJ's seven field goals in the first quarter came from three-point range. Macy Savela (JR/Mountain Iron, MN) and Sarah Lenz (FR/Belle Plaine, MN) combined to hit four of their five attempts.

Jamestown sank five more threes in the second quarter, and took their biggest lead of the half (15 points) on Lenz's three with 1:22 before the break.

The Broncos cut into UJ's 14-point halftime lead, outscoring the Jimmies 19-10 in the third, with 10 of their points coming from the free throw line. Savela was the only player to score more than two points in the third for Jamestown, as she made two three-pointers for six of UJ's 10 points.

Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) and Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) each had five points in the fourth as UJ saw their lead cut to two points with 2:22 remaining. Jamestown held Hastings scoreless for the remainder of the game, finishing on a 7-0 run.

Savela led Jimmie scorers with 14 points. Lenz and DeMars each had 12 while Tower was also in double figures with 11. DeMars grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN) passed out four assists to go along with six points and six rebounds.
