4th quarter run helps Jimmies hold off Comets

A 17-0 fourth quarter run boosted the 16th-ranked University of Jamestown women's basketball team to a 61-49 victory over the Mayville State (N.D.) University Comets Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.

Tied at 46 wiith 5:45 to play, Jamestown held the Comets scoreless for four minutes and 24 seconds while reeling off 17 straight points. Kasey Harper (SO/Mesa, AZ)'s layup started the run, and by the time it was finished, the Jimmies went 4-of-7 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line.

UJ jumped out to an early 17-4 first quarter advantage and led 22-10 after one. However, during the second and third quarters, the Jimmies' shooting turned ice cold, connecting on only five of 25 field goal attempts and nine of 17 free throw attempts. The score was 29-29 at halftime and 41-40 entering the fourth quarter.

Jenna Doyle (SR/Princeton, MN) had 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Noelle Josephson (FR/Ramsey, MN) had 10 points and five rebounds off the bench. Jory Mullen (SR/Pierre, SD) added nine points while Marina Nowak (SR/Rogers, MN) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

Joelle Ertl had 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Comets (2-1) before fouling out. Cyan Hale was also in double figures with 12.

Jamestown (3-0) hosts 16th-ranked Valley City State (N.D.) Monday at 6:00 p.m.
