The University of Jamestown softball team got off to a successful start at home on Friday with a pair of wins at the Nelson Family Bubble, defeating Valley City State (N.D.) 14-2 in five innings and Dickinson State by a score of 6-0.

THE BASICS
SCORES: Jamestown 14, Valley City State 2 (5 innings); Jamestown 6, Dickinson State 0
LOCATION: Nelson Family Bubble / Jamestown, ND
RECORD: Jamestown 2-2, Valley City State 1-5, Dickinson State 0-2

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• A pair of six-run innings accounted for nearly all of the Jimmies' offensive output against VCSU.
Gracie Fisher, Kayla Quintanilla, and Hope Ransome each had run-scoring singles, Gentrey Turin doubled in another run, and Maddie Spaeth and Camryn Schwab also drove in runs as UJ sent 10 batters to the plate in the first.
• VCSU got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the first as Logan Gronberg homered after Andrea Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice.
• Quintanilla homered to lead off the top of the third, then tripled home Sonya Rodgers an inning later as Jamestown pushed its lead to 8-2.
• The top of the fifth saw UJ post its second six-run inning of the game. Turin hit a double to drive in Kylie Yanzuk and Ransome, then came home on Trinity Gregg's triple. Spaeth singled in Gregg for the fourth run of the inning. A wild pitch later scored pinch runner Amanda Burch, and Rodgers would come home on Ally Battistoni's two-out single.
• Ransome pitched all five innings for her first win as a Jimmie. She struck out four and gave up two earned runs on six hits.
• Turin was 3-for-3 at the plate and Quintanilla also finished with three hits. Fisher, Schwab, and Samarah Martinez all had two hits each.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
Abby Blair struck out seven and allowed just three hits in six scoreless innings as UJ blanked Dickinson State 6-0. She threw 62 of 82 pitches for strikes to improve to 1-1 on the year.
Maddie Spaeth's two-out, bases-clearing single staked UJ to a 3-0 in the top of the third.
Camryn Schwab made it 4-0 for the Jimmies with a two-out double in the top of the fourth.
• Schwab put down a squeeze bunt to score Ally Battistoni, but was safe on a fielding error that helped Sonya Rodgers move from first to third. One out later, pinch-runner Sidnie Aasen's delayed steal of second base allowed Rodgers to score on a stolen base of her own for the sixth Jimmie run.
Bristol Foytik came on in relief of Blair in the seventh and preserved the shutout. She struck out one and allowed one hit in an inning of work.
• Battistoni was 2-for-4 at the plate and five other players had one hit for UJ.
