Jimmie bats held in check by Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D.-- The Jimmie softball team was held to two runs and five hits on Tuesday in a pair of losses to Mount Marty University in GPAC action. The Lancers won 3-1 and 4-1 to keep UJ in search of its first conference win this season.

Jamestown (13-15 overall, 0-6 GPAC) will be in Aberdeen, S.D., on Friday to host Concordia (Neb.) at 2 p.m.

The Jimmies trailed 1-0 going into the top of the fifth as Gracie Fisher led off with a walk. After moving to second on a groundout, Fisher came home on a double by Angie Chin, tying the game at 1-1. Chin's double would be UJ's only hit in the game, and was the only other player besides Fisher to reach base. Fisher walked in the second and was hit by a pitch in the seventh.

A pair of Jimmie errors in the bottom of the fifth led to two runs as Mount Marty retook the lead at 3-1. Sunny Halsey held the Lancers to just two hits in six innings, with only one earned run out of the three she allowed.

UJ took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of game two on a Megan Neiles RBI single with two outs. Samarah Martinez led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed over to second. One out later, Neiles came through with a base hit to center field for the go-ahead run.

Back-to-back doubles helped Mount Marty get the tying run in the bottom of the fifth, then the Lancers rallied for three more in the bottom of the sixth to build a 4-1 lead.

Martinez had two of the Jimmies' four hits. Abby Blair worked into the fifth inning for UJ, allowing one run on four hits.
