Jimmies unable to douse Flames in Monday doubleheader

OMAHA, Neb.-- The Jimmie softball team saw their first action since March 29 on Monday as they faced College of Saint Mary in GPAC action. The Flames took both games of the doubleheader by scores of 1-0 and 11-4.

Jamestown (13-13 overall, 0-4 GPAC) will be in Yankton, S.D., Tuesday for a doubleheader against Mount Marty University.

UJ and CSM each held the opposition off the scoreboard through five and a half innings in game one. After escaping a two-out, runner at third situation in the previous half inning, the Flames went to work quickly in the bottom of sixth. Daisy Lowther led off with a single and moved to second after a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch moved Lowther to third, and Savannah Schewe's sacrifice fly later scored Lowther with the go-ahead run.

The Jimmies had runners on first and second with one out in the second inning, the only time Jamestown had multiple runners on base. Megan Garcia (2-13) scattered five hits in pitching the shutout. Sunny Halsey (5-7) struck out eight over six innings for UJ.

In game two, Kylie Yanzuk's double to right center scored Samarah Martinez and Ally Battistoni for a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. CSM rallied for three runs in their first time up to go in front 3-2, but UJ answered back. With runners at second and third, Trinity Gregg reached on an error that allowed both runs to score making it 6-4.

The Flames broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five times on seven hits while taking advantage of a UJ error. Gregg, Battistoni, and Sydney Grendler joined Yanzuk in the hit column.
