Jimmies win three of four to close out Tucson trip

The Jimmie softball team finished the Tucson Invitational Games with wins in three of their last four games, improving to 12-8 overall this season.

UJ defeated Siena Heights (Mich.) 11-3 in Thursday's opener.

Maddie Spaeth hit a one-out triple in the top of the fourth inning, then came out on a groundout by Gentrey Turin to break a 3-3 tie.The Jimmies added another run in the fifth then ended the game via the run rule with six runs in the sixth.

Mackenzie Lefebvre hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs, and Trinity Gregg went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Spaeth, Jayda Neiles, and Angie Chin all had two hits. Hailey Schaefer (2-1) scattered six hits over four innings to get the win, and Sunny Halsey struck out three in the final two innings to record her second save.

It was a pitcher's duel in Thursday's second game against University of Saint Francis (Ill.) as Abby Blair and Bridget McDermott held the opposition off the scoreboard through five innings.

UJ broke the tie in the sixth with a single run and added a pair of unearned runs in the seventh to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, USF delivered four straight two-out hits and pushed home four runs in their final at bat for the win.

Samarah Martinez (2), Trinity Gregg, and Megan Neiles had the Jimmies' hits.

Martinez added three more hits and scored three times in Jamestown's 8-3 win over Bethany Lutheran College on Friday. UJ led 3-2 going into the fifth but scored three times in the fifth to help break the game open. Abby Blair (5-2) allowed two earned runs on nine hits in the complete-game victory.

The Jimmies rallied for a win in their final at-bat against Olivet Nazarene on Friday. Down 2-1 in the bottom of lthe seventh, UJ used a triple by Megan Neiles and Skylar Thorpe sacrifice fly to account for the winning runs. Five different players had a hit for Jamestown. Sunny Halsey (4-4) went the distance, giving up two runs on six hits over seven innings.

Jamestown is on the road to face Peru State (Neb.) College on March 17 in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
