Jimmies defeat Siena Heights in final at-bat

TUCSON, Ariz.-- After seeing a three-run lead in the fifth inning get away, the Jimmie softball team rallied in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-8 win over Siena Heights (Mich.) Monday afternoon at the Tucson Invitational Games.

The Saints completed a three-run comeback with a pair of runs in the seventh to tie the score at 8-8.

Maddie Spaeth drew a walk to start the bottom of the seventh, then Kayla Quintanilla put down a sacrifice bunt fielded by the Saints' third baseman. The throw to first went wide, and Spaeth advanced home with the winning run.

Jayda Neiles had two hits and drove in two runs, and Ally Battistoni also had two RBI. Hailey Schaefer (1-1) got the final out of the seventh and was credited with the win. Battistoni and Megan Neiles each doubled, and Gentrey Turin had a triple.

In Monday's first game, Jamestown led No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan 1-0 going into the bottom of the third, but the Wildcats scored three unanswered runs over the final four innings in a 3-1 win.

Gentrey Turin led off the third with a walk and moved up to second base on Ally Battistoni's sacrifice bunt. Turin took third on a groundout to second, then came home as Trinity Gregg reached on an error.

Sunny Halsey allowed just one earned run in six innings in the circle, giving up five hits while striking out six. Gregg broke up IWU's no-hit attempt with a one-out single in the sixth.

Jamestown (6-7) will play York (Neb.) Tuesday at 10 a.m. Central
