Men's Wrestling begins season with Jimmie Open

The University of Jamestown men's wrestling team began their season Saturday by hosting the Jimmie Open at Harold Newman Arena. Four wrestlers recorded top-seven finishes once the mats were cleared.

JIMMIE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Isaiah Miller was the highest-placing wrestler for UJ on Saturday, taking second at 133 pounds. Miller defeated Alexander Spray of Concordia (Minn.) by 18-2 tech fall and won a 15-1 major decision over Northern State (S.D.)'s Clay Gates. In the championship, Miller lost to Jason Henschel of Northern State (S.D.) by 16-0 tech fall.
  • Chance Robinson took fourth at 285 pounds, opening his day with a narrow 2-0 decision over University of Mary's Aidyn Mitchell. In the quarterfinals, Robinson won a 14-4 major decision against Concordia (Minn.)'s Austin Ratliff. Robinson was pinned by Ayden Vox of Northern State (S.D.) in the semifinals, then was pinned by Mary's Jose Reyes in the third-place match.
  • Jake Rau was sixth at 197 pounds. After losing a 7-0 decision to Cannon Potts of Minot State (N.D.), Rau pinned Judah Arthurs of University of Saskatchewan in 4:13, and in the consolation semifinals, won by 16-0 tech fall over Cullen Glatt. In the fifth place match, Rau lost to Marshall Vantassel of Northern State (S.D.) by 20-4 tech fall.
  • Jace Goebel placed seventh at 141 pounds. Goebel suffered a 13-3 major decision loss to Mary's Drew Steidler, then advanced in the consolation round with a bye and a medical forfeit victory. Goebel won a 4-3 decision over Hayden Trupe to move on to the consolation semifinals, where he was pinned by Kaden DeCoteau of Mary.
  • Cullen Glatt (197), Diante Taylor (184), Jahn Williams (165), and Cutter Jones (157) each recorded a pair of victories before being eliminated.
