Men's volleyball one win away from nationals after sweep of KWU

The ninth-ranked University of Jamestown men's volleyball team advanced to the championship match of the GPAC postseason tournament with a sweep of Kansas Wesleyan University Friday evening at Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jamestown outhit Kansas Wesleyan .452 to .138 in the first set while leading by as many as 11 points (22-11).
  • After the Coyotes got within 12-7 in set two, the Jimmies got a kill from Tomasz Swiderski to begin a run of four straight points.
  • UJ closed out the second set with the last five points, including a pair of aces by Caydann Cox.
  • A 6-0 run gave Jamestown a 16-11 lead in set three, and KWU would get no closer than four points the rest of the way.
  • The Jimmies posted a .438 team hitting percentage in the final set, including 17 kills against only three errors.

  • Jamestown will face Morningside (Iowa) in the championship match on Saturday at Harold Newman Arena. First serve is set for 3 p.m. and the winner will receive the GPAC's automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship.
