INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED.

  • Jamestown got out to an 11-3 lead in the first set and did not allow the Defenders to get any closer than 20-17 late. Just as soon as Dordt trimmed the lead to three, the Jimmies took three points in a row and five of the last eight to take the opener.
  • The Defenders took command early in the second set, racing out to a 7-2 lead.
  • UJ used a 6-1 run to tie the score at 8-8, and from that point neither team built more than a two-point lead.
  • With Dordt ahead 18-16, Jamestown reeled off four straight points and retook the lead for good. The Defenders would get as close as 21-20 only to have UJ win four of the last five points and take a 2-0 match lead.
  • The Jimmies never trailed in the third set, turning a 7-5 lead into a 16-8 cushion. Jamestown went up by double digits after a Caylor Cox ace made it 22-12, and Caydann Cox clinched the match with his 14th kill of the night.
