INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set One (21-25)
Jamestown led three different times in the first set--2-1 after an attack error by Saint Xavier, 3-2 after a Hackley kill, and 14-13 after another Saint Xavier attack error capped off a 4-0 run. Six of the next points went the way of the Cougars, and UJ got no closer than one the rest of the set.
  • Set Two (27-29)
UJ opened up a 16-11 advantage following a kill by Swiderski, and maintained a four-point edge as late as 20-16 after back-to-back Saint Xavier errors. However, the Cougars won the next five points to go ahead by one. The teams traded the lead until 27-26, when Caydann Cox put the Jimmies ahead for the final time. SXU got a kill and consecutive service aces to take the 2-0 match lead.
  • Set Three (18-25)
The Jimmies led 7-6 early on, only to have the Cougars reel off five straight points and eight of the next nine. UJ put together back-to-back points three different times down the stretch, but the deficit was too much to overcome, and SXU completed the sweep.
