Jimmies close out road trip with three straight wins

The Jimmie men's volleyball team finished their 10-day road trip with three straight wins, defeating Simpson College and Cumberland University on Thursday and Ottawa (Kan.) University on Saturday.

UJ improves to 17-3 overall and 7-1 in the GPAC, and will host Ottawa on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the final regular-season home match of the season.

Jaden Gaalema and Christian Gulak each had six kills for the Jimmies in a 25-12, 25-18, 25-16 win over Simpson College. Jamestown hit just .083 for the mtach but held Simpson to -.160. Maxwell Enriquez passed out 13 assists and Sebastian Ignaczak recorded 12 digs in the win.

UJ outlasted Cumberland (Tenn.) University in five sets to conclude the Central Christian College (Kan.) tournament. Set scores were 20-25, 25-12, 25-27, 25-19, 15-11.

Oguzhan Oguz was one of four players with double-digit kill totals (18) and also had five service aces. Downey Huynh (12 kills, 10 digs) and Caylor Cox (10 kills, 13 digs) both had double-doubles, and Ever Cancel hit .571 with 10 kills and no errors on 14 attempts. Derek Correa finished with 47 assists and three aces. Defensively, Adam Lopata racked up 10 digs and Tysen Myers had five total blocks.

Jamestown returned to conference play on Saturday at Ottawa and swept the Braves 25-19, 25-19, 25-21.

Oguz again led the Jimmies with 16 kills and hit .448. Cox hit .438 with eight kills, while Cancel and Huynh had seven kills apiece. Cancel hit an even .500 on 12 attempts. Correa had 35 assists and was one of four players with two aces. Lopata led the defense with 11 digs as did Myers with his four total blocks.
