Jimmies sweep Cardinal Stritch for win number 13

MILWAUKEE, Wis.-- The 11th-ranked Jimmie men's volleyball team took on Cardinal Stritch University Monday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. UJ won in straight sets 25-14, 27-25, 25-16.

After Cardinal Stritch closed the gap to 10-8 in the first set, Jamestown went on a 9-2 run to build a 19-10 lead. Ever Cancel, Tysen Myers, and Caylor Cox all had kills to close out the set for UJ.

The second set was much closer with neither team getting ahead by more than three points. The Wolves had the Jimmies at set point (24-22), but Oguzhan Oguz's kill and a combined block by Oguz and Myers tied the score. Jamestown again got three straight kills to clinch the win, two coming from Oguz for a 2-0 match lead.

UJ trailed 4-2 in the third before winning 13 of the next 18 points to take a 15-9 advantage. The lead increased to as many as eight and the Wolves got no closer than five (15-10).

Oguz finished with 19 kills and Cox turned in 10. Cancel (.750) and Downey Huynh (.714) combined for 12 kills and made only one error in 15 attempts. Derek Correa had 37 assists in helping UJ to a .528 overall hitting percentage. Defensively, Cox had eight digs and Myers posted six block assists.

Jamestown (13-2) will be at the Central Christian Invitational in McPherson, Kan., Wednesday and Thursday, with two matches each day.
