Jimmies' win streak ends with loss at Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa-- The 11th-ranked Jimmie men's volleyball team had its 11-match winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to Dordt University Friday evening.

THE BASICS

  • Final score: Dordt 3 - #11 UJ 1 (25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22)
  • Location: Sioux Center, Iowa - De Witt Gym
  • Records: No. 11 UJ 11-1 (7-1 GPAC), Dordt 11-1 (7-1 GPAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies opened with a 6-2 lead and continued to hold the advantage throughout the first set. Down 12-9, the Defenders went on a 7-1 run and forced a UJ timeout.
  • UJ would get as close as 18-18 after a Dordt service error, but the Defenders won back-to-back points and three of the next four to pull away for an eventual 25-22 set win.
  • Oguzhan Oguz had a kill to score the first point for the Jimmies in set two, and that would be the only lead UJ would have the rest of the way. Four straight points from Dordt created some separation and Jamestown played behind for the entire set.
  • Kills by Caylor Cox and Oguz, followed by a Cox service ace, brought the score to 22-21. The Defenders' final three points all came on kills and a 25-22 win put them in front 2-0 in the match.
  • In set three, Oguz again opened the scoring with a kill, but this time the Jimmies would never trail. Dordt was behind four to six points for most of the set until closing the gap to 19-16 following a Jamestown attack error.
  • UJ led set four up to 20-18, with a couple of ties along the way, before the Defenders began their comeback. A 4-0 run turned the tide for Dordt, and the Jimmies would use a pair of Oguz kills to level the score at 22. Dordt finished wth the final three points and the four-set win.
