Two more wins for No. 10 Jimmies on Saturday

The tenth-ranked Jimmie men's volleyball team added two more wins to its season total Saturday as day two of the UJ Invitational concluded at Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED--MATCH ONE

  • The Jimmies took on conference foe Central Christian College (Kan.) in their first match Saturday.
  • UJ's reserves used the opportunity to gain extra playing time against the winless Tigers, as 13 players saw action.
  • Jamestown never trailed at any point during the match, using a 7-0 run behind the serving of Gabriel Ocasio in set one; a pair of 7-0 second-set runs with Christopher Ross at the line; and mini 3-0 runs behind Maxwell Enriquez and Ricardo Enriquez in the third set to roll to victory.
  • Set scores were 25-14, 25-13, and 25-15.

JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES

  • UJ hit .182 for the match with 22 kills and 12 errors on 55 attempts
  • Christian Gulak had five kills and four players in all had three or more.
  • Ocasio passed out 12 assists and had six digs.
  • Ross had five of the Jimmies' 15 service aces.

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN GAME NOTES

  • The Tigers hit -.087 for the match, with 17 kills and 23 errors on 69 attempts.
  • Kolby Campbell had a team-high six kills.
  • L.A. Deberry passed out 13 assists and Micah Avendano had six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED--MATCH TWO

  • UJ returned to its regular lineup against Kansas Wesleyan in Saturday's nightcap.
  • A 6-1 run helped the Jimmies create some separation in set one, eventually leading to a 25-17 win.
  • With the score tied 2-2 in the second set, Jamestown scored five straight and eight of nine to break it open.
  • KWU got as close as 17-11 before a 6-0 run by the Jimmies doubled their lead.
  • UJ hit .563 in the second, their highest of the match.
  • Set threre was never much in question after a 10-3 run early on fueled Jamestown's sixth sweep in seven matches.

KWU GAME NOTES

  • Kahlib Lawrence led the Coyotes with five kills. Three other players each had three.
  • Marcus Taylor had 15 assists and Jeremy Lapeze five digs.
