The 10th-ranked Jimmie men's volleyball team recorded its second straight sweep to open the season, defeating Central Christian College (Kan.) 3-0 Saturday morning at Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Caylor Cox was the go-to for UJ's offense in set one, recording nine kills on 11 attempts and only one error.
  • Jamestown had 19 kills in the first set and hit .481, while the Tigers managed just one kill and hit -.100.
  • Central Christian's lone kill came from Kolby Campbell to make it 1-1, then the next 11 points the Tigers scored came on Jimmie attack and service errors.
  • Five of the six UJ starters played only the first set as head coach Travers Cox got his reserves involved in set two.
  • Derek Correa, the lone starter to see the second set, had four kills including three in a row in a 7-0 UJ run.
  • Jamestown hit .550 with 13 kills compared to two kills and -.125 for Central Christian.
  • Leading 12-9 in the third set, UJ opened up an 11-point lead behind the serving of Christopher Ross. Ross picked up a pair of aces and Gabriel Ocasio had two kills as part of the run.
  • The Tigers won eight of the final 12 points in the closest set of the match.

JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES

  • The Jimmies hit .382 for the match, with 40 kills against 14 errors on 68 attempts.
  • Christian Gulak and Jaden Gaalema both had four kills coming off the bench.
  • Correa had a team-high 21 assists and four digs.
  • Maxwell Enriquez recorded four aces and Downey Huynh added three as UJ ended the match with 11 total.
  • Tysen Myers posted three solo blocks.

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN GAME NOTES

  • The Tigers hit -.021 for the match, with 11 kills against 12 errors on 48 attempts.
  • Campbell had six kills and hit .222. Five other players added one kill each.
  • Joshua Hernandez passed out nine assists and racked up three digs.
