The University of Jamestown men's soccer team had their season come to a close Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to Briar Cliff (Iowa) University at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Knowing a victory would guarantee them a spot in the eight-team conference postseason tournament, the Jimmies applied the offensive pressure early on.
  • Daniel Aburto (2) and Noris Rombeck each had scoring chances saved by BCU keeper Hjalmar Nilsson in the first 23 minutes.
  • Andrew Buchanan appeared to have given the Chargers the lead in the 29th minute, finding a wide opening in the UJ net, but James Moody ran down the shot from behind, putting it out of play for a corner kick.
  • Boston Petersen and Mathias Varlet had shots in the final five minutes of the half, but both were wide of the goal.
  • In the 73rd minute, BCU drew a foul in the 18-yard box and was awarded a penalty kick. Nicolas Karlsen converted from the spot and the Chargers led 1-0.
  • Jamestown had one final attempt on target, a header by Alexi George in the 82nd minute that was saved by Nilsson.
