Jimmies overcome late two-goal deficit to earn draw with Doane

The University of Jamestown men's soccer team was down 2-0 against Doane (Neb.) University with 20 minutes remaining, but scored twice to salvage a 2-2 draw against the Tigers Sunday afternoon at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams played to a 0-0 draw at halftime, with the Jimmies getting four shots (three on target) in the opening 45 minutes.
  • UJ won three corner kicks to just one for the Tigers, while both teams were whistled for five fouls each.
  • Hugo Meneguite opened the scoring in the 56th minute with an assist by Braden Lackey to make it 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.
  • Cesar Gonzalez upped the Doane lead to 2-0 with his goal in the 66th minute, assisted by Guillem Colom.
  • In the 71st minute, James Moody was fouled in the box and the Jimmies awarded a penalty kick.
  • Frankie Parkinson converted from the spot, getting Tiger goalkeeper Samuel Montanez to go to his left while Parkinson went the opposite way and hit nothing but the back of the net.
  • Montanez made a costly error for his team in the 85th minute. The Tigers had a goal kick but Montanez made his kick outside of the 18-yard box, and the Jimmies won a free kick from the same spot.
  • Wade McWhorter drilled the kick into the left corner of the net and brought UJ level at 2-2.
  • Both teams had attempts to score during the final five minutes but none were successful.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Charlie Clark made one save for UJ, who allowed only three shots on target and ten overall.
  • Parkinson and McWhorter both had two shots on goal while six other players each recorded one.

FOR THE TIGERS

  • Montanez had eight saves in the loss.
  • Gonzalez was credited with two of the three Tiger shots on goal.
