Jimmies overcome losing slump with defeat of Morningside

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Scoring in the first minutes of the first half remained tight. The Jimmies went on a 12-1 run beginning at at 13:54 on the clock, securing a lead of 24-15 with 9:44 remaining.
  • The Mustangs came back and at 4:00 minutes remaining pulled a lead of 33-22. The Jimmies quickly took their lead back with a three from Colby Vazquez.
  • The Mustangs stayed close to the Jimmies in the remaining minutes. The Jimmies managed to keep their lead until the Mustangs scored a jumper with four seconds left to end the half ahead 42-40. 
  • Five Jimmies contributed to the seven made three-pointers in the first half. 
  • The hot hands to start the second half were Cole Woodford with two threes, Colby Vazquez with one three, and Silas Bennion with one three and two twos.
  • With 15 left to play, the Jimmies were ahead 56-51. The Mustangs quickly caught up, gaining a lead of four with 7:45 remaining (70-66). However, that was the largest lead the Mustangs saw the rest of the game.
  • By 52 seconds left of the game the Jimmies had secured a lead of 11 points. The final points of the game were from a Jimmy Llinas dunk. The Jimmies won 91-81.  

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Bennion led the Jimmies in points with 28. Eighteen of his points came from threes. 
  • Llinas (15), Vazquez (14), and Woodford (13) also contributed double digits. 
  • Bennion also led rebounds with nine. Llinas and Christian Lietz each added on seven. 
  • Llinas had five blocks.

FOR THE MUSTANGS 

  • Joey Skoff led in points with 23.
