Jimmies beaten by Indiana Tech in Round of 16

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- The 2022-23 season came to an end for the Jimmie men's basketball team with a 61-51 loss to Indiana Tech Tuesday evening in the NAIA National Tournament Round of 16.

Jamestown (27-7) was led in scoring by Mason Walters with 26 points and Cole Woodford with 13.

The Jimmies led 18-12 at the 8:00 mark of the first half but the Warriors closed on a 17-6 run, taking a 29-24 lead into the break. UJ shot just 7-of-32 overall (21.9 percent) and went without a field goal for over six minutes.

Colby Vazquez scored on a putback to bring Jamestown within 31-30 at the 15:44 mark, only to have Indiana Tech answer with a 10-3 run that stretched their advantage to eight points after a Rog Stein layup.

UJ could not find its shot from the outside, hitting on only 2-of-7 three-point attempts in the second half. Meanwhile, Indiana Tech went to work inside, attempting just two three-pointers and making 12-of-24 shots inside the arc. The Warriors would go on to lead by as many as 12 while not letting the Jimmies get any closer than six after Walters hit a pair of free throws to make it 41-35.

Jamestown was playing in its third consecutive round of 16 since the NAIA went to one division for men's basketball. The 27 wins was the most for UJ under head coach Danny Neville since the team finished 29-6 with an appearance in the round of 16 in 2018-19.
