Nine straight for #11 Jimmies after win at DWU

MITCHELL, S.D.-- The 11th-ranked Jimmie men's basketball team defeated Dakota Wesleyan University 84-71 Wednesday evening for its ninth straight victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers took a 16-7 lead after Koln Oppold's jumper with 13:45 in the first.
  • Jamestown scored 14 of the next 19 points, tying the game on a dunk by Mason Walters that made it 21-21.
  • Diang Gatluak and Blaze Lubbers sank back-to-back three-pointers to put DWU in front 27-21.
  • Will Cordes started a 17-2 Jimmie run that included four straight three-pointers from Cole Woodford, and led 38-29 with 4:22 before the half.
  • UJ missed its final four shots of the first but still led 40-37 after twenty minutes.
  • A 14-4 run to start the second half helped Jamestown to a 13-point advantage (54-41) just under six minutes in.
  • Walters and Kjos made back-to-back threes for a 62-43 lead.
  • DWU cut the lead to 71-62 after a three-point play by Jakob Dobney, but the Jimmies kept the lead between eight and 10 points for the next 2:45.
  • Dobney converted another three-point play with 1:33 left to make it 78-71, but Kjos and Reid Gastner both sank a pair of free throws down the stretch, and a Woodford layup sealed the deal with 42 second remaining.

JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES

  • The Jimmies shot 51.7 percent (30-of-58) from the floor, including 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from three-point range.
  • Woodford sank 8-of-9 three-point attempts and led all players with a career-high 26 points. His eight threes tied for the second-most in a game by a UJ player.
  • Walters had 24 points and eight rebounds.
  • Kjos and Gastner also were in double figures with 11 points each. Kjos dished out a team-high seven assists.

DWU GAME NOTES

  • The Tigers shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the floor, including 40 percent (12-of-30) from three-point range.
  • Gatulak had 19 points while Lubbers and Dobney both had 15.
  • Lubbers grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double and Oppold passed out five assists.
