#11 Jimmies down Northwestern for seventh straight win

The 11th-ranked Jimmie men's basketball team won its seventh straight game, defeating Northwestern (Iowa) 78-55 Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jamestown took 25 of its 42 first-half shots from beyond the arc, making eight, for a 43-23 halftime lead.
  • NWC led 11-7 after a Connor Geddes three-pointer at the 15:49 mark, then Will Cordes made a three to start a 24-4 run that gave UJ a 31-15 advantage with 6:16 left in the half.
  • Marc Kjos knocked down a three at the 3:00 mark to put Jamestown ahead by 22, then Reid Gastner extended the lead to 23 with a free throw with 1:34 before halftime.
  • UJ made only 3-of-17 three-point attempts in the second half, but were 12-of-14 inside the arc.
  • NWC shot 33 percent (11-of-33) and despite a 25-16 rebounding advantage, were unable to get any closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
  • Christian Lietz, Jack Courneya, and Garrett Kolbeck combined for the final seven Jimmie points over the final 1:28 to push the margin of victory back over 20 points.

JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES

  • UJ shot 42.5 percent (31-of-73) from the floor, including 26.2 percent (11-of-42) from three-point range.
  • Cordes led the Jimmies with 19 points, followed by Cole Woodford and Mason Walters with 13 points each, and Kjos with 12.
  • Walters grabbed nine rebounds and passed out four assists.
  • Woodford and Kjos both had four steals.

NORTHWESTERN GAME NOTES

  • The Raiders shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor, including 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from three-point range.
  • Matt Onken led NWC with 14 points while Craig Sterk added 12 points and eight rebounds.
