No. 9 Jimmies rack up 30-point road win at Dickinson State

DICKINSON, N.D.-- The ninth-ranked Jimmie men's basketball team showed no signs of rust after a 16-day layoff as they defeated Dickinson State University 94-64 Tuesday evening.

Jamestown moves to 12-2 overall while the Blue Hawks fall to 4-10. UJ completes the season sweep of their former conference rivals, having won 112-84 in the season opener at Harold Newman Arena back on November 3.

Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) had 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in helping the Jimmies to their fourth straight win.

UJ never trailed in Tuesday's contest, jumping out to a 16-6 lead early on. After a Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) three-pointer made it 26-18 UJ at the 10:39 mark, DSU went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 26-25 with 6:09 in the half.

Gastner converted a three-point play to end the Blue Hawk run, and Jamestown eventually built the lead back up to nine going into halftime.

After shooting 44 percent in the first half, the Jimmies turned things on in the second, making 58 percent of their attempts. UJ also had a 25-10 rebounding advantage, not allowing DSU to grab an offensive rebound in the final 20 minutes.

Cooper Olson (SO/Champlin, MN)'s basket with 15:58 to play put Jamestown ahead 52-37, their largest lead of the night to that point. The Blue Hawks got as close as nine before Walters knocked down a three to start a 17-4 run that made it 71-49 at the 7:31 mark.

DSU shot 38 percent for the game and 29 percent from three-point range. Jamestown finished at 52 percent overall and 37 percent from beyond the arc.

Gastner added 15 points and nine rebounds while Marc Kjos (SR/Lake City, MN) (14) and Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN) (11) were also in double figures.

The Blue Hawks were led by Josiah Haaland with 14 points and Bradyn Palmer with 10.

UJ is back in action Friday at Northwestern (Iowa) College with a 6:45 tip time.
