Walters and Gastner double-doubles help #6 UJ win at Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D.-- Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) and Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) both recorded double-doubles and three Jimmies finished in double figures as the sixth-ranked University of Jamestown men's basketball team won 87-67 over Mount Marty University Saturday afternoon.

UJ improves to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference while the Lancers drop to 5-9 and 2-6 in the GPAC.

Mount Marty scored the first points of the game, but only managed to get as close as 14-14 at the 11:09 mark of the first half. A 12-3 run put Jamestown in front by nine, and the lead would only get as low as seven points with 2:40 left before the break.

Gastner hit a three-pointer to begin another 12-3 run to close out the half, going up by as many as 19 points before a three-pointer by the Lancers at the buzzer made it 46-30. Walters had 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting while Colby Vazquez (JR/Millbrae, CA) and Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN) each added eight in the opening 20 minutes.

Josh Arlt converted a three-point play to cut the Lancer deficit to seven, 55-48, but baskets by Woodford and Camron Ketchum (SO/Billings, MT) along with a pair of Woodford free throws quickly made it a 13-point game.

Jamestown led between 11 and 17 points for the final ten minutes, with Jacob Axmaker (FR/Sublimity, OR)'s three-pointer making it a 20-point game at the end.

Walters led all players with 36 points, two away from tying his career high, and 13 rebounds. Woodford scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Gastner finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Vazquez had eight points and Marc Kjos (SR/Lake City, MN) chipped in with seven points and six assists.

Tash Lunday led the Lancers with 23 points. Cole Bown added 15 points and seven boards, and Arlt was also in double figures with 13.

The Jimmies shot 56.7 percent in the game and outrebounded Mount Marty 37-20.
