#5 Jimmies defeat No. 15 William Jessup at The Show

KINGSPORT, Tenn.-- Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) scored 32 points to help lead the fifth-ranked University of Jamestown men's basketball team to a 74-66 win over No. 15 William Jessup University Sunday afternoon.

Jamestown extends its winning streak to four games and improves to 7-1 overall. The Jimmies return home to host Hastings (Neb.) College Friday at 6:45 p.m.

A 12-0 run helped UJ take a 21-6 lead just under seven and a half minutes into the contest. William Jessup then went on a 19-9 run of its own to cut the deficit to 30-25 at the 3:34 mark of the first half. A Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) three-pointer put Jamestown back in front by double digits before WJU scored right before the halftime buzzer.

The Jimmies maintained a lead of seven to ten points for the first part of the second half. Twice William Jessup was able to get within four points, the latest coming with 12:08 to play at 52-48. Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN), Cooper Olson (SO/Champlin, MN), and Walters all had baskets to help UJ go up by ten once again.

Will Cordes (JR/Shakopee, MN) made three-pointers at two crucial moments in the second half--the first coming after WJU got within six at the 6:45 mark, and the second coming after William Jessup made it a five-point game just over two minutes later. Cordes finished 11 points in the game.

Woodford was also in double figures for UJ with 15 points. Gastner added seven points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Marc Kjos (SR/Lake City, MN) passed out four assists.

The Jimmies held an 18-6 advantage in points off turnovers, committing just 11 to William Jessup's 16. UJ also held a slim edge in rebounds (36-35) and points in the paint (30-28).
