Fifth-ranked Jimmies end #23 CUNE 23-game home winning streak

SEWARD, Neb.-- The fifth-ranked University of Jamestown men's basketball team snapped No. 23 Concordia (Neb.)'s 23-game home winning streak Tuesday evening with a 90-59 win in GPAC action.

Jamestown (5-1, 2-1 GPAC) won its second straight game by 30 or more, and third overall this season.

Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) had 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds as UJ won for the first time on CUNE's home court since a 74-61 victory on November 17, 2018.

A 5-0 run put the Bulldogs ahead by a pair with 17:17 in the first half, but Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN)'s three-pointer gave Jamestown the lead for good. UJ scored 21 of the next 24 points and built a 16-point advantage after Camron Ketchum (SO/Billings, MT) made a three at the 9:36 mark.

The biggest lead of the first half came on a Will Cordes (JR/Shakopee, MN) three-pointer to give the Jimmies a 40-18 edge with 3:16 before halftime. CUNE closed on an 8-2 run to cut UJ's lead to 16 entering the break.

Jamestown leaned heavily on Walters in the second half as the two-time All-American scored 22 of the team's 48 points. He connected on eight of 14 attempts (57 percent) and UJ was an even 50 percent (19 for 38) as a team.

A Walters three-pointer finished off a 15-2 run extending the Jimmie lead to 31 just under 5 1/2 minutes in, and CUNE would get no closer than 26 points the rest of the way. The Bulldogs shot 11 of 32 in the second half and made just one of ten three-point shots.

Woodford and Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) both finished with 13 and Marc Kjos (SR/Lake City, MN) had 10. Gaster grabbed nine rebounds and Walters had six assists. Kjos recorded four steals and was one of three Jimmies with four assists.

Noah Schutte and Tristan Smith led CUNE with 17 points each.

Next up for the Jimmies is a trip to Kingsport, Tenn., to take part in "The Show," a gathering of some of the top NAIA teams in the country. UJ will play West Virginia Tech on Saturday at 11:45 a.m., then on Sunday will face No. 15 William Jessup University at 10:00 a.m.
