No. 9 Jimmies stay unbeaten with win at VCSU

VALLEY CITY, N.D.-- Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) had 34 points and 11 rebounds and Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN) added 18 points and seven rebounds as the ninth-ranked University of Jamestown men's basketball team won its third straight game Saturday evening, 103-84 over Valley City State University.

Woodford shot 6-of-12 from three-point range and Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) 5-of-6 as the Jimmies finished 17-of-36 from beyond the arc (47 percent). Walters connected on 15 of his 19 field goal attempts in helping UJ shoot 59 percent (41-of-69) overall.

With the score tied 9-9, a Woodford three started a 13-0 run capped off by a Gastner three that made it 22-9 Jimmies with 13:11 in the half. VCSU got as close as nine points (22-13), but Jamestown outscored the Vikings 24-9 over the next seven minutes to take their largest lead of the half.

Camron Ketchum (SO/Billings, MT) knocked down a three-pointer to give UJ a 31-point lead, and Walters sank a free throw for a 32-point edge on the next Jimmie possession. VCSU outscored Jamestown 32-19 down the stretch to make the final score closer than it really was.

Gastner was also in double figures with 15 points. Marc Kjos (SR/Lake City, MN) had eight points and 10 assists, while Cooper Olson (SO/Champlin, MN) came off the bench to add eight points.

The Vikings (3-3) were led by Duoth Gach's 19 points.

Jamestown opens conference play on Wednesday hosting Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University at 7:45 p.m.
