No. 11 Jimmies post 30-point win at Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb.-- The 11th-ranked University of Jamestown men's basketball team shot 50 percent in the first half to build a 12-point lead, then clamped down on defense in the second half in an 82-52 win over Hastings College Saturday afternoon.

Mason Walters (JR/Jamestown, ND) had 25 points while Marc Kjos (JR/Lake City, MN) added 16 and Cole Woodford (SO/Redwood Falls, MN) 11 as the Jimmies defeated Hastings for the fifth straight meeting and eighth time in the last 10 matchups.

The Broncos led 2-0 and 4-2 before back-to-back threes by Walters and Kjos made it 8-4 UJ, and the Jimmies never looked back.

A Will Cordes (SO/Shakopee, MN) jumper gave Jamestown its largest lead of 16 points at the 8:48 mark, then UJ would lead by 17 on two different occasions before taking a 12-point edge into halftime.

After the break, the Jimmies continued their strong shooting, hitting 52 percent of their attempts. Defensively, Jamestown held Hastings to 8-of-34 from the field and outrebounded the Broncos 21-14. UJ held Hastings without a point for spans of 4:19 and 4:45, and allowed just five points over the final 9:14.

Devan Praska (SR/Thompson, ND) had nine points and five rebounds off the bench, while Devon Schultz (SR/Arlington, MN) had seven points and seven rebounds. Brady Birch (SR/Melrose, MN) grabbed a team-high nine boards and Kjos dished out seven assists.

Jamestown, now 18-5 overall and 8-5 in the GPAC, hosts Mount Marty (S.D.) University Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
