Jimmies trounce Trinity Bible in home opener

Six players scored in double figures as the 19th-ranked University of Jamestown men's basketball team rolled to a 110-62 win over Trinity Bible College Friday night at Harold Newman Arena.

The Jimmies (3-0) will be in California November 5-6 to play Hope International University and Vanguard University.

TBC led 4-2 in the early stages of the game, but Marc Kjos (JR/Lake City, MN) made a three-pointer to give Jamestown a 5-4 lead and the Jimmies never looked back. Trinity Bible closed within 25-13 at the 10:19 mark, and then went scoreless for the next 3:38. Meanwhile, Jamestown scored 13 straight to open up a 23-point lead, and led by as many as 28 on three different occasions.

A basket by Brady Birch (SR/Melrose, MN) gave UJ a 30-point edge with 19:07 to play, and the rest of the game was never in doubt. Over the next 11:35, Jamestown outscored the Lions 37-17 and went ahead 97-47.

Will Cordes (SO/Shakopee, MN) paced the Jimmies with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three point range. Lucas Schumacher (FR/Linton, ND) came off the bench to score 15 points, making all five of his three-point attempts. Cole Woodford (SO/Redwood Falls, MN) added 14, while Mason Walters (JR/Jamestown, ND), John Argue (SO/Houston, TX), and Devon Schultz (SR/Arlington, MN) all finished with 10.

Walters pulled down 12 rebounds to finish with his first double-double of the season. Kjos had nine boards and along with Devan Praska (SR/Thompson, ND), dished out five assists.

Tyrik Ward led the Lions with 17 points and Austin Molan chipped in with 13.

UJ's next home game is November 17 against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University.
