Jimmies upended by No. 1 Morningside

The top-ranked Morningside (Iowa) University football team lived up to their ranking Saturday afternoon at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium, defeating the University of Jamestown 59-7.

The Jimmies forced a fumble on the Mustangs' first offensive play and then recovered a fumble inside Morningside territory but were not able to put any points on the board. Aside from the two drives ending with a turnover, Morningside found the end zone on five straight possessions and took a 42-0 lead with a litte under five minutes left in the half.

UJ got on the board at the 2:10 mark of the second quarter when Cade Torgerson (SR/Billings, Mont.) connected with Isaiah Roebuck (SO/Marana, Ariz.) for a 14-yard touchdown pass on fourth and ten. The scoring drive covered 70 yards in eight plays and was the longest of the day for the Jimmies.

Morningside added a touchdown and field goal in the third quarter to finish out the scoring.

Torgerson completed 19 of 41 passes for 159 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. Zach Hammett (FR/Mohave Valley, Ariz.) carried 10 times for 39 yards, and Roebuck and Micah Madyun (JR/Ramsey, Minn.) both hauled in four passes.

Isaac Thompson (SR/Mesa, Ariz.) had eight tackles to lead the defense. Paul Vandal (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) added seven tackles, including a sack to give him 8 1/2 for the season. Ezra Belingheri (SO/Sparks, Nev.) recorded an interception and Hershell Jefferson (SO/Pensacola, Fla.) was credited with two pass breakups.

Jamestown (3-5 overall, 2-5 GPAC) hosts Hastings (Neb.) College next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
