Jimmies reclaim Paint Bucket with OT win over VCSU

Micah Madyun (JR/Ramsey, Minn.)'s six-yard touchdown catch in overtime gave the University of Jamestown football team a 27-24 win over Valley City State University in the 75th Paint Bucket Game.

Jamestown took a 14-0 into the half after a Zachariah Hammett (FR/Mohave Valley, Ariz.) first quarter four-yard touchdown run and Isaiah Roebuck (SO/Marana, Ariz.)'s 28-yard pass from Cade Torgerson (SR/Billings, Mont.). Rashawn Benners (JR/Dayton, Ohio) intercepted Avery Thorsgard just short of midfield, and the Jimmies converted that turnover into the Roebuck touchdown three plays later.

The Vikings got on the board with 8:26 left in the third on a six-yard run by Justice Bice. UJ countered with Torgerson's second touchdown toss on the night, a six-yarder to Javon Bowie-Monteiro (SR/Sacramento, Calif.), and it was 21-7 Jimmies going into the fourth.

VCSU used two lengthy drives in the final quarter resulting in scores, the first covering 76 yards on 18 plays that was capped off by a four-yard Taylor Simmons run. After the Viking defense forced a Jamestown punt, VCSU took over at their own nine-yard line with 5:22 left in regulation. Thirteen plays and 91 yards later, Thorsgard rushed for an 11-yard score with 31 seconds remaining.

In overtime, the Vikings managed just four yards on their first possession and took a 24-21 lead on a 36-yard field goal by Masila Siua.

Jamestown's winning drive was highlighted by a 12-yard pass from Torgerson to Madyun, followed by an eight-yard run by Carlos Julian (JR/North Las Vegas, Nev.) that took the Jimmies down to the four-yard line. After a two-yard loss, Torgerson threw his third touchdown, finding Madyun on an acrobatic catch in the right corner of the end zone.

Torgerson finished with 175 yards on 20-of-34 passing and was not intercepted. Frankie Ingraldi (SR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) carried 10 times for 37 yards and Julian added 21 yards on five carries.

Eight different receivers caught a pass, led by Madyun's five catches. Steve Justice (SR/Henderson, Nev.) hauled in three grabs, while Roebuck, Dawson Schmidt (FR/Watertown, S.D.), and Ethan Goss (SO/Fresno, Calif.) all finished with two,

Izaak Myles (SR/Apple Valley, Calif.) punted six times, with four inside the 20-yard line and an average of 44.2 yards per punt.

Jed Rantz (SO/Arroyo Grande, Calif.) led the defense with 15 total tackles, including nine solo. Ezra Belingheri (SO/Sparks, Nev.) and Rob Anderson (JR/Alexandria, Minn.) added six tackles each.
