DWU defeats Jimmies in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D.-- The Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University Tigers outscored the University of Jamestown football team 21-6 in the second half Saturday, defeating the Jimmies 35-16 at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.

DWU took a 14-0 lead with 50 seconds left in the first quarter following a recovery of a blocked punt in the end zone.

The Jimmies responded with a pair of scoring drives in the second quarter, a nine-play 38 yard drive that resulted in a 24-yard Izaak Myles (JR/Apple Valley, Calif.) field goal, and another nine-play, 38-yard drive capped off by an eight-yard Frankie Ingraldi (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) touchdown run.

Trailing 14-10 at the start of the third quarter, the Jimmies fumbled on the first play of the second half, and the Tigers would find the end zone six plays later to extend their lead to 21-10.

UJ needed just one play on the ensuing drive to find the end zone, as Cade Torgerson (JR/Billings, Mont.) connected with Steven Justice (FR/Henderson, Nev.) on a 71-yard touchdown reception, and Jamestown trailed 21-16.

DWU went 75 yards on nine plays on the next drive, with Zachary Lester finding Spencer Neugebauer from 15 yards out to make it 28-16.

Lester and Neugebauer connected on another 15-yard scoring pass on the first play of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 35-16.

Jamestown played the final 12:38 without Torgerson, who was injured after being sacked. He completed 13 of 35 passes for 164 yards before Matt Chauvin (SR/Paradise, Calif.) replaced him. Chauvin was 7-for-12 passing for 58 yards.

Ingraldi finished with 75 yards rushing on 10 carries. Jeremy Williams (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) caught six passes for 41 yards while Justice had four grabs for 103 yards.

Colin Kok (SO/Williston, N.D.) led the defense with seven total tackles. Paul Vandal (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) and Levi Scribner (SR/Crescent City, Calif.) each had a sack.

The Jimmies, now 1-6 overall and in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, will host Doane (Neb.) next Saturday at the MDU Resources Community Bowl at 1 p.m. in Bismarck.
