Jimmies open weekend series with win over Gustavus Adolphus
The University of Jamestown D2 hockey team won for the fourth time in its last five games, defeating Gustavus Adolphus College 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Wilson Arena.
Neither team scored in the first period, but Josh Hoffman (JR/McMurray, Pa.), Braxton Neas (SR/Bismarck, N.D.), and Connor Rollo (SR/Camarillo, Calif.) added goals in the second as the Jimmies took a 3-1 lead into the third period.
Tyler Ralph's unassisted goal made it 4-1 at the 2:20 mark of the third, then Quin Garrison (SR/Prince George, British Columbia) joined Neas and Rollo with power play goals, extending the UJ lead to 5-1 with 10:41 remaining.
Samuel Potter (SR) stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced in goal. Jamestown outshot Gustavus Adolphus 43-34 and ended 3-for-7 on the power play.
The two teams finish their weekend series Sunday at 11 a.m.
