Fourth-ranked Jimmies start new year with home win over McKendree

The fourth-ranked Jimmie ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat McKendree University 3-2 Friday evening at John L. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jonathan Davenport gave McKendree a 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season, coming at 12:59 of the first period on assists by Jack Harris and Matias Alexandrov.
- Carter Johnson brought the Jimmies level at 17:18 of the first, scoring for the ninth time on the year.
- With 11 seconds remaining in the opening period, McKendree's Rycol Davis was whistled for a delay of game penalty. Jamestown wasted little time on the man advantage, as Logan Berggren scored five seconds into the power play to give the Jimmies a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
- Jordan Baranesky extended UJ's lead to 3-1 with his ninth goal of the season 46 seconds into the second period. The second Jimmie power play goal of the night came just 23 seconds after Ben Anderson went to the box for interference.
- Alexandrov tallied his fifth goal of the year at 12:51 of the third to make the score 3-2. UJ was able to see the game out and hold on for the one-goal victory.
FOR THE JIMMIES
- Berggren, Brad Fortin, Morgan Venne, Jordon Kromm, Alek Erichuk, and Matthew Poole each had an assist for Jamestown.
- Brandon Weare stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced in goal.
- UJ held McKendree to 0-for-4 on the power play and outshot the Bearcats 51-20.
